Silverstone Circuit, UK- Today Sony and Polyphony Digital announced Gran Turismo 6 for the Playstation 3. The latest iteration in the series was announced amidst celebrations of Gran Turismo’s 15 year anniversary, by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. Gran Turismo 6 will feature over 1200 cars, including the 1000 present in GT5 as well as 200 new cars, 33 locations, and 71 different course layouts.
Along with new cars, the game will also feature an updated physics engine to bring a new level of realism to the popular racing simulator. A benchmark of the the series has always been cutting edge graphics and realism, as well as the ability to fine tune and customize cars down to the smallest detail.
Since the original release in 1997 Gran Turismo has sold over 70 million copies, making it the best selling Playstation series, and is often used as a display of the graphic rendering power of the Playstation 3. Much of its popularity has come from the authenticity the game offers. Everything from the revving of the engines, to the course layouts, offers the most realistic racing experience. Paired with the physics engine and ability to tinker with everything from the suspension to engine power the series is a revenue powerhouse for Sony.
The game is set to be released Holiday 2013 with additional DLC available monthly and some features will be available on smartphone devices and tablets.
