Final Fight 2 – SNES Review – Beat ’em up’s finest

I loved the original Final Fight game that was released in the arcades. The amount of money I put into that thing was unreal.

So I was very excited when I got my Super Nintendo for my 12th birthday in 1992 that I would now be able to play Final Fight at home. With my birthday money I knew that I was going to be buying Final Fight.

I am sure many of you know that Final Fight that was released on the Super Nintendo was a much watered down port of the arcade version. The biggest problem for me was not so much the fact that one of the characters Guy was missing, but more the fact that the game could only be played in 1 player. While I still liked the game it was a bit of a disappointment.

Final Fight 2 on the other hand did not disappoint. While it kept pretty much that same side scrolling beat em up game play style. It offered improved graphics and more importantly for me it now let you play in 2 player. The amount of time that my brother and I put into this game was unreal. The stages in the game were better than what was in Final Fight 2 as now you would go to different parts of the world. One stage even had a very small cameo from Chun-Li from Street Fighter II which blew my mind as a kid.

In all Final Fight 2 I feel is one of the under rated gems of the Super Nintendo. When people mention side scrolling beat em ups 99/100 the original Final Fight is brought up, but for some odd reason this classic gets mostly ignored.
